Tabtrail Support
Need help? Email tabtrail@pudmi.com. Tabtrail is made by one person, so replies may take a few days. It helps to include your iPhone model, iOS version, and the Tabtrail version (shown in Settings in the app).
Getting started
- Tap + and create a trip. Add the people who are sharing costs.
- Add expenses as they happen. Choose who paid and how to split (equal, exact amounts, or shares).
- Open Balances to see each person’s balance with the math shown, plus suggested transfers.
- When someone pays, mark the transfer as paid. Share a plain-text summary anytime — friends do not need the app.
Category on an expense is optional and does not affect balances or settlement. Trip icon is only for recognizing the trip in your list.
Frequently asked questions
How do I restore my purchase?
If you bought the unlock and are on a new iPhone or reinstalled the app:
- Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
- Open Tabtrail, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. The same button is also on the unlock screen.
Restoring needs an internet connection. It is free; you will not be charged again. The unlock is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Restoring brings back the unlock only. It does not bring back trips, because those were stored on the old device (see below).
What’s free, and what does the unlock add?
Free: one trip, with no limit on the number of expenses, every split option, full balances with the math shown, suggested transfers, marking payments as settled, receipt photos, and plain-text export.
The one-time unlock (priced in the App Store, typically $4.99 USD) adds more trips, image (PNG) and PDF exports, and exports for just one person. There are no ads and no subscription.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your iPhone, inside the app (SwiftData on-device). Tabtrail has no account and no server, and it doesn’t upload anything, including receipt photos. That’s why it works offline, and also why I can’t see, recover, or move your trips for you. Details are in the privacy policy.
How do I back up my trips?
- Keep a readable copy: export the trip (text is free) and save it to Files, Notes, or email it to yourself. This is a summary to read, not a file you can import back into the app.
- Back up the whole iPhone: an iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer can include Tabtrail’s data, and restoring that backup to an iPhone brings the trips back with it.
Tabtrail does not have its own cloud sync, so a trip doesn’t move to a new phone unless you restore a device backup.
How do I delete my data?
- One expense: delete it from the expense list and confirm. You may have a short window to undo. The trip’s change log keeps a one-line note that it was deleted.
- A whole trip: delete the trip. This removes its expenses, payments, change log, and receipt photos.
- Everything: delete the Tabtrail app from your iPhone. Copies inside any device backups stay until those backups are deleted.
Deleting data doesn’t affect your purchase. You can restore it at any time.
Do my friends need the app?
No. One person keeps the trip on their phone and shares the summary through Messages, Mail, or any app in the share sheet. Each balance in the summary shows how it was calculated, so anyone can check it.
Does Tabtrail send or receive money?
No. It shows who should pay whom and how much. You settle up however you like, then mark the payment as paid in the app.
Can I change the trip currency later?
Yes. Editing the trip currency only changes the label. Existing amounts stay as entered; Tabtrail does not convert values.
Something looks wrong with a number
Tap the balance or expense to see how it was worked out. If the math still doesn’t look right, please email me with the amounts and how each one was split (a text export works well). Leave out anything you’d rather not share.
