Tabtrail Privacy Policy

Tabtrail: Split Trip Costs · iOS app by Peng Sun
Effective date: October 9, 2026

Short version: Tabtrail does not collect any data. Everything you enter, including receipt photos, stays on your iPhone. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. I can’t see your trips, and I have no copy of them.

Who this policy is about

Tabtrail is an iPhone app for splitting shared costs among a group (trips, dinners, roommates, and similar). It is made by Peng Sun, an independent developer (“I” or “me” below). This policy covers the Tabtrail app and this website page.

What the app stores, and where

To do its job, Tabtrail saves what you type into it: trip names, trip icon, currency, people’s names, expenses (amount, title, category if you choose one, who paid, date, how it was split, notes), receipt photos you attach, payments you mark as settled, and a change log of edits.

All of this is stored only on your device using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData). Tabtrail has no backend server and no account system, and it does not send your trip data or photos anywhere. I never receive it.

What is not collected

Tabtrail does not collect, and I do not receive, any personal data or usage data. Specifically, the app contains:

The app works offline. Apart from the optional in-app purchase described below (handled by Apple), it does not make network requests.

In-app purchase

Tabtrail offers one optional, one-time unlock purchase (not a subscription). The first trip is free; the unlock adds more trips and additional export options. Buying it and restoring it are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit / the App Store. I do not receive your name, email address, or payment details. Apple’s handling of that information is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

When you share an export

You can export a trip summary as text (and, with the unlock, as an image or PDF) and send it through the iOS share sheet. The export contains the names and amounts from that trip. It goes only where you choose to send it, such as Messages or Mail, and from then on it is handled by that app or service and by the people you send it to. Exports do not include receipt photos. A plain-text export may end with a short “Made with Tabtrail” line and a link to the App Store page; that line is just text and does not track anything.

Device backups

Tabtrail has no cloud sync of its own. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud Backup or to a computer, iOS may include Tabtrail’s data in that backup, as it does for most apps. Those backups are created and stored by Apple or on your own computer, under your control and settings, not by me.

Deleting your data

Because your data exists only on your device, you control it directly:

I can’t delete or recover your data for you, because I don’t have it.

Children

Tabtrail does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Tabtrail changes how data is handled (for example, an optional iCloud sync feature), I will update this page and its effective date before that version is released, and describe the change here. The current version is always at https://tabtrail.pudmi.com/privacy.
